For Renters – These are the key considerations that all food businesses need to consider when renting a kitchen:

  1. Food Safety Considerations – As the food business operator (FBO) it’s your legal responsibility to make sure that you’re producing food that’s safe to eat. As part of this, you must ensure you have a food safety management system in place, and it has to be based on the principles of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points). You need to consider the risks and hazards of practices and physical set-ups throughout your business including your rented kitchen space, with consideration to the equipment and processes used there.   If there are any concerns with the hygiene of a kitchen on our platform, contact us immediately at [email protected].
  2. Notice to Food Standards Agency – It is your duty as a FBO to notify your local authority when you register your business, that you’ll be using rented kitchen space to cook or prepare food.
  3. Insurance – Wherever you cook, you should have liability insurance. The law actually requires that you take out employer’s liability insurance to protect you and your business against claims from injured employees or contractors.  You need to make sure that your liability insurance covers you against all eventualities and take out public, product and employer’s liability insurance to keep your business as protected as possible.
